Wellbeing Minister Terrence Deyalsingh mentioned he has been encouraged there is nothing debarring principal healthcare officer (PMO) Dr Maryam Abdool Richards from sitting on the board of Angostura.
Responding to queries on Monday, he mentioned, “I have been encouraged that the general public support polices do not debar a general public officer from getting up an appointment as prolonged as the appointee can accomplish their responsibilities and that has been advised to me by the Public Service.
“Dr Abdool-Richards was supplied permission to be on the board of Angostura on the basis that the community support rules do not debar it, and I have cleared that with the Long-lasting Secretary.”
The Civil Provider Restrictions Chapter 23:01, Section 37, point out: “An officer shall not, specifically or indirectly, be associated in any economical or other interest or enterprise which could compromise, or reasonably be claimed to compromise that officer’s position performance or place of work.
“Wherever an real or possible compromise arises, the officer shall advise the Long term Secretary or Head of Section. The Long term Secretary or Head of Section shall establish the character and diploma of compromise, choose upon an appropriate program to take care of it which might incorporate assigning the officer to other responsibilities, and recommend the officer accordingly.”
Worries have been raised by the Opposition as to Abdool-Richards’ appointment to the board, thinking about that Angostura is included in the manufacturing and sale of liquor and inquiring regardless of whether she was fulfilling her role to minors and her all round professional medical responsibilities.
Abdool-Richards and director of Lifetime Roofing Franka Costelloe were each appointed to the Angostura board on November 16.
The organization has reported it did not see a conflict of fascination in Abdool-Richards’ appointment to the board of directors.
