Mega Millions and Powerball Records Break
Powerball and Mega Millions both have a history of breaking lottery roll records. Powerball has recently set a new record of $224.2 million after breaking the previous record of $183.1 million. Mega Millions has been a close second for 14 rolls, but Powerball has recently been breaking that record as well.
Mega Millions record
In October 2018, a single ticket in South Carolina won a record Mega Millions jackpot worth $1.537 billion. The record jackpot is the largest in the game’s history. It is also the highest cash payout ever for a single ticket. The last time a billion dollar jackpot was won, it was in December 2016. This jackpot was divided between three players, who each received a lump sum of more than $877 million.
Until March 2016, there had not been a single ticket that matched all six numbers. In that drawing, the jackpot was $390 million. This jackpot was so large that the website suffered from high traffic and erroneous messages. Unfortunately, no winner of that prize was able to claim the jackpot.
Mega Millions drawings take place at 11pm Eastern time every Tuesday and Friday. It is administered by the Consortium of Twelve Original Lotteries. The drawings are held in Atlanta at the WSB-TV studios. The Georgia Lottery supervises the drawings. The show is hosted by John Crow and Carol Blackmon.
A recent court ruling has confirmed the case of Jason Kurland, a lottery scammer who defrauded lottery players out of more than $100 million. Kurland marketed himself as a lottery lawyer and had a social media presence on the Internet. After his conviction, he was sentenced to prison for his crimes.
The Powerball jackpot in March 2019 was $1.586 billion, making it the largest jackpot in U.S. history. The prize was split between three winners, Mauen Smith and David Kaltschmidt of Melbourne Beach, Florida, Marvin and Mae Acosta of California, and John and Lisa Robinson of Tennessee. Each winner will receive $557 million in cash after taxes.
Powerball record
In January 2016, the Powerball jackpot hit a billion-dollar mark. The prize, which was split among three winning ticket holders, is still the largest lottery prize to date. The jackpot increased from $1.498 billion to $1.586 billion, thanks to the combination of winning numbers. The winner was a hospital worker from Massachusetts named Mavis Wanczyk. She was 53 years old at the time of the draw, and she quit her job immediately after winning the lottery.
A recent Powerball jackpot of $1.4 billion set a new record for the largest jackpot in human history. The prize was split between three winning tickets. One of the lucky tickets, sold in Tennessee, won $528.8 million before taxes. One of the lucky ticket holders, John and Lisa Robinson, appeared on the Today Show before claiming his prize. The other two winners waited until the following month, when they contacted the Florida Lottery.
The Mega Millions jackpot was also almost as big as the Powerball jackpot in October. The MegaMillions prize reached a record $1.537 billion, almost equaling the Powerball jackpot’s record prize of $1.586 billion. The winning ticket in MegaMillions, however, was split between three winning tickets. The Mega Millions jackpot also ended up lower than the Powerball jackpot because of poor ticket sales.
The second-largest Powerball jackpot was won by Gloria Mackenzie in 2013. The lottery winner, at the age of 84, chose to receive a lump sum of $270 million before taxes. She also chose to give $2 million to a local high school. However, despite her success in the lottery, she has since stepped away from the spotlight.
Powerball jackpots have no set limit, so the jackpots can grow to incredible sizes. The last jackpot winner, in November 2018, claimed a prize of $144.1 million. However, the payout was smaller than the largest Powerball jackpots in 2017 – $564.1 million in February and $310.5 million in September. The previous record for a North American lottery
jackpot was $656 million in March 2012.
Since the lottery launched in 1992, Powerball has created thousands of millionaires. As a result, it has broken a number of lottery records. Powerball has produced the biggest jackpots and most winners in various states. Although the odds are similar in every state, the states near the top of the list have been offering the lottery for a longer period of time, and have more regular players.
